FDA in 2021 recommends that Americans should limit their sodium consumption to about 2.3 grams5 daily. FDA highlights that high sodium diets may raise blood pressure thus leading to hypertension and increase risk of CVDs (cardiovascular diseases).

China is the largest consumer of salt per capita. In a study published in Oct 2020 by China CDC weekly, it was highlighted that though the sodium intake per capita reduced from 11.8 grams/ day in 2000 to 9.2 grams per day in 2009-2011; but it alone didn’t translate into a significant reduction6 of hypertension rates.

This case study contradicts FDA's recommendation which was purely salt biased for reducing CVDs. So literally sodium intake varies from person to person and their general health indicators.
